This is a very unique period of the year in Serbia. Why?

Kids start going to school on September 1st. The period is always tied to learning, friendships, and something new. In that light, I picked today to soft launch my first eBook ‘BeforeDesign One‘. It’s written for designers who want to learn design. More soon.

In cities, this is the time of year when people start spending more evenings out. There’s something strangely nostalgic about the smoke and toxins rising from city heating systems, quietly marking the beginning of a unique season where everyone dresses a bit more nicely, and laughs with friends. The streets feel alive, and the atmosphere somehow exciting.

In country side, this is when experienced craftsmen start making one of the best alcoholic drinks in the world ‘Rakija’ — Serbian brandy, mainly distilled from plums (other fruit too, but plum is the signature fruit).

Septembers are very emotional and joyful in Serbia. Beverage of choice is black coffee and/or rakija. Planning for weekend gatherings are often. Shops are full. Restaurants and bars are full. In the country side people gather in front of local stores sit together and chat for hours. Nightlife and event programs are rich, even in small towns. You can hear music walking the street, and even in rarely populated village — coming outside neighbour’s window. Atmosphere across the country is getting cozier and it echos with joy.
