It’s often the case that we humans don’t appreciate the details. As a designer you are in constant conflict with the world. The world wants to be practical, ship fast and productive, while you want to point to and experience tiny details, take the time for those that you believe really matter.
As you may have heard, the WordPress 6.9 is out. Face behind the release is maestro Gene Harris. When it comes to details, here are a few.
I happily designed the cover for the release, but wanted to add a layer of reference to the mix. That’s how the custom lettering below came to be. The idea is that it represents piano keys as a direct visual connection to the artist. The other elements follow the significant 6.9 release branding — gold and blue, a color combination that marks an important release and pushes collaboration in WordPress to new heights.

It is very important that you experience/listen to Gene’s album “Alley Cats”, while you explore new features of WordPress 6.9. Album on Spotify here.
I am also thinking we could do a ‘hall of fame’ alike website where we’d make a landing for each WordPress release, dedicated to the artist behind it. Will share more ideas behind this thought.
